Nursery Assistant

A great entry point into early years.

What you’ll do:

  • Support daily routines like snack time, naps and play

  • Help keep children safe, clean and happy

  • Assist with setting up activities


Typical salary: £17,000 – £22,000 per year (or £9–£11 per hour for part-time roles)

Ideal for: Those new to childcare or working towards a Level 2 qualification.



Nursery Practitioner (Level 2 or 3)

A more hands-on role with key responsibilities.

What you’ll do:

  • Plan activities to support development

  • Carry out observations and reports

  • Take responsibility for a small group of children (key children)


Typical salary: £20,000 – £27,000 per year (or £10–£13 per hour)

Ideal for: Qualified professionals with a Level 2 or 3 in Early Years.



Room Leader

Managing a room and leading a small team.

What you’ll do:

  • Oversee daily planning and routines

  • Support and supervise nursery staff

  • Maintain high standards of care and safeguarding


Typical salary: £24,000 – £30,000 per year

Ideal for: Experienced practitioners who are ready for more responsibility.



Deputy Manager

Second in charge and a key support to the nursery manager.

What you’ll do:

  • Help manage staff and day-to-day running

  • Handle parent queries and admin tasks

  • Step in when the manager is off-site

Typical salary: £26,000 – £34,000 per year

Ideal for: Room leaders or senior staff ready to move up.



Nursery Manager

The person in charge.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the setting, manage staff and budgets

  • Ensure the nursery meets Ofsted standards

  • Build strong relationships with parents and the community

Typical salary: £35,000 – £49,000 per year (depending on location and size of setting)

Ideal for: Senior professionals with strong leadership, admin and safeguarding experience.
